Summary
- You can use most of the app as a guest with no account — that data stays on your device.
- If you create an account, we store your email and learning progress to sync across your devices.
- The AI Tutor sends the text you type to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI to generate a reply. Don’t enter sensitive personal information.
- The camera and microphone are used on your device for AR and speaking practice; we don’t upload photos or audio.
- We do not sell your data, show third-party ads, or use third-party advertising/tracking SDKs.
What we collect
Account information (only if you sign up). Email address, a password (stored hashed by our authentication provider, Supabase), and a display name. Used to authenticate you and sync your data.
Learning data. Your progress, saved word deck, spaced-repetition review state, writing-practice progress, and settings. Stored on your device, and — if you are signed in — synced to our backend (Supabase) so you can continue on another device.
AI Tutor messages. When you use the AI Tutor, the text you send is transmitted to our server (a Supabase Edge Function) and then to OpenAI, which returns a response. We run automated moderation on the input. Per OpenAI’s API terms, API data is not used to train their models. Avoid sending personal, financial, or health information.
Camera & microphone (on-device). The camera powers the AR word-discovery feature; object recognition runs on your device and images are not uploaded. The microphone and speech recognition power speaking practice; speech recognition may be processed by Apple. We do not store recordings.
Diagnostics. Basic, anonymous usage events may be stored locally on your device to improve the learning experience. They are not linked to your identity and are not sold.
How we use data
- Provide and sync the learning features you use.
- Generate AI Tutor responses (via OpenAI) and moderate content for safety.
- Maintain account security and prevent abuse.
We do not sell personal data or use it for third-party advertising.
Third parties
- Supabase — authentication and data sync (hosting your account + learning data).
- OpenAI — generates AI Tutor responses from the text you send.
- Apple — speech recognition (speaking practice) may use Apple services.
Children
The app includes a simplified “young child” mode. The AI Tutor is not available in child/junior modes — it is restricted to teen/adult use. If the app is used by a child, a parent or guardian is responsible for that use and for any account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is described here. Contact us to review or delete a child’s data.
Your choices and rights
- Use without an account (guest) — data stays on-device.
- Delete your account and data in-app: More → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and synced data from our backend and wipes local data.
- Access/export or questions — contact us (below).
Data retention
Account and synced learning data are kept until you delete your account. On-device data is removed when you delete the app or your account, or sign out of a guest session.
Security
Data in transit uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed by our auth provider. API keys for third-party services are kept on our server, never in the app.
Changes
We may update this policy; the “Last updated” date will change. Material changes will be noted in the app or on this page.
